Milan is a people-friendly metropolis and is also the most pet-friendly city in Italy. Thatin Milan there is more and more sensitivity towards urban fauna and pets (in everyday life as well as on holiday) is a fact.

A dog's life? Of course not! Going on holiday to Milan with your pets has never been so easy. Let's see some travel tips for those who wish to stay in Milan with their four-legged friends.

Milan, a pet-friendly city: welcoming and protecting animals

The history of Milan is rooted in an agricultural past and there are still places where life has preserved a bond with nature: a trip to the educational farm in the Parco Trotter, a walk amongst butterflies and birds in the Parco delle Cave or a brief visit to the Cascina Campazzo is enough to discover a new bond between humans and animals. Milan has never lost sight of the issue of animal protection and promotes respect for local fauna through various initiatives.

It is essential to learn about and appreciate animals as sentient beings who are in great need of care and protection. But when we say that Milan is a pet-friendly city, we think above all about the welfare of pets, in fact, the emotional bond with dogs and cats greatly improves the quality of human life.

In Milan there are many animal protection associations that support the culture of awareness with the aim of respecting animal life and making a new synergy with humans possible, for example by encouraging adoptions and offering shelter to mistreated animals or victims of illegal trafficking: for over thirty years Mondogatto welcomes cats looking for a home and provides information on  caring for and respecting cats; UAI Rifugio is a non-profit organization that shelters animals abandoned by their owners, stray or injured, while the City of Milan Parco Canile is always looking for volunteers who "give a paw" to this important cause.

Holidays in Milan with animals: what to do?

Milan pays great attention to the welfare of animals and, why not, to the theme of fun with your pet. But what can you do in Milan when traveling with four-legged friends?

There are many hotels and businesses that welcome Fido and the rest. The Enterprise Hotel was a pioneer and offers a Dog Kit consisting of the kennel, bowl and crunchies renamed not surprisingly "Dolce Vita da cani". The TownHouse Galleria too is equipped to offer a comfortable stay for puppies by with a special Pet program to give a warm welcome to anyone arriving in Milan on holiday with pets

Inside the Park is the Area Cani Acquario, which occupies six thousand square meters and represents an ideal space for creating and improving the interaction between humans and animals. In the Indro Montanelli Gardens there is the Mobility Dog Park, a sort of open-air gym with play and training tracks created as part of the "Care for and Sponsor Public Greenery" project. And for an extra touch of pink while simply strolling with your pet... all you have to do is to go to Via Cappuccini and peer through a hedge through at the beautiful flamingos of Villa Invernizzi splashing undisturbed in the garden of the villa.

Pet-friendly clubs and travel tips for a six-legged holiday

Do you need travel tips for a pet holiday in Milan? Let's find out the shops and pet-friendly clubs in Milan for those who choose to have a six-legged holiday.

One of the favorite pastimes of Milanese and Milanese tourists is to stroll through the shopping streets, and if you are walking with your four-legged friends in Via Meravigli you can find a boutique dedicated to Prince and Princess animals, which sells accessories, jewelry, and clothing made for your pets. Dilan Dog, on the other hand, is a specialized pet shop that combines a commercial business (with grooming and boarding services) with information on animal life.

One of Milan's best-known cat-lovers' clubs is the Crazy Cat Café: this delightful rock café is based on the model of Japanese neko cafés and is home to nine cats. Thanks to the furniture carefully designed for the well-being of Elvis, Bowie and his companions, Crazy Cat has become a meeting place for cat lovers and hosts numerous events on the cat theme. Snacking with these affectionate kitties really shows the benefits of pet therapy!

You can't bring your pets to the Crazy Cat Café except for special events, but the list of restaurants and clubs that welcome pets is getting longer and longer. The Locanda alla Mano, immersed in the greenery of Parco Sempione, is a decidedly pet-friendly place where four-legged friends can find refreshments together with their masters; the bistrot Valà also warmly welcomes dog friends, with a corner with a bowl for water and a mat on which to rest.
